Brief description of course
Course overview
The Diploma of Community Welfare is designed to provide participants with the skills, knowledge and understanding to work in the community welfare sector in service delivery to clients, in a wide variety of settings.
Graduates from this program provide a holistic approach to client needs including social, emotional, psychological and practical support. They also develop knowledge and skills of specific client needs and the operation of the community welfare sector.
What skills will I have when I complete this course?
Students will develop basic skills in casework, counselling, case management, community development and group work. The course is designed to ensure a balance between theory and practice in social welfare work.
Entrance requirements
Applicants should have a minimum of one year’s experience in a management position in any sector of Community Services.
Selection will be based on industry experience, previous related education, an LLN assessment and skills assessment interview with APTC SHCS staff.
Duration
The course will be delivered part-time over 18 months. Students will attend theory/underpinning knowledge classes and complete practicum within their workplace and an alternate setting.
The course will be delivered in six (6) blocks and successful students will be required to travel to and from Suva, Fiji. Students will be eligible to apply for a scholarship which will assist with the costs associated with travelling (i.e. flights, accommodation and a reasonable living allowance).
RPL
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) will be granted where applicants can demonstrate current underpinning knowledge, relevant qualifications and suitable workplace experience. To obtain RPL please submit evidence of your prior experience or learning with your application, as it may assist to shorten the duration of your course. Ask for more information when you enrol.
