Kiribati student 'goes for gold' in Vanuatu
Despite tasting espresso coffee for the first time only recently, APTC student, Miss Teeren Aata, has won gold in the International Coffee Barista section of the 2009 Origin Culinary Arts Show held in Port Vila, Vanuatu.
"I only tasted my first espresso coffee three months ago," said Miss Aata, who hails from Betio, Tarawa, Kiribati. "But the excellent tutoring I am getting in my APTC Tourism and Hospitality course has enabled me to win an international award."
The Barista contestants had to prepare four espressos, four cappuccinos, and four specialty coffees of their own choice, and serve the International Barista Championship Judges within a 15-minute time constraint.
Miss Aata, who impressed the judges with her 12 coffee entries, has been studying Hospitality Operations as a full-time student with APTC at the Vanuatu college campus.
APTC Tourism and Hospitality Trainer, Mr Marc Warin congratulated Miss Aata, on her success and said that her achievement was sure to make her country proud. "It is also indicative of the calibre of students attending APTC Tourism and Hospitality courses."
Reaffirming Mr. Warin's remarks was the 'outstanding' success experienced by the 15 students from the school who earned an overall 25 medals: two gold, two silver and twenty-one bronze.
