Santo students committed to new course
Seventeen students from the northern island of Espiritu Santo in Vanuatu have recently begun the latest Certificate III Hospitality Operations course on offer in Vanuatu.
"The group is really excited to have this opportunity," said Trainer Donna Chamberlin. "They are so committed to their studies, that the entire class is turning up half an hour early, and then they don't want to leave after class. They pepper me with questions before and after each session. Their enthusiasm is fantastic."
Donna, who began with APTC in October this year, conducts the part-time course classes in Luganville at the Maritime College. The rest of the week, she conducts industry visits on-site at the students' workplaces in Luganville and surrounding villages and islands.
"This gives me the opportunity to receive industry feedback," explained Donna. "Already employers are remarking on positive changes they can see in their staff attending the course: the growth of industry knowledge and the development of confidence after only a few short weeks."
"While gaining knowledge and practicing new skills from the course, students are able remain in their existing jobs and so continue supporting their families. This feature is an important benefit of the part-time course," said Donna.
