Carpentry course changing Vanuatu students’ lives
Amongst the Carpentry Certificate III students at APTC ACEM in Suva who took part in the carpentry demonstration at the Pacific Youth Festival at the University of the South Pacific were three young men from Vanuatu, who say that their lives are changing as a result of their studies.
Japeth, (John to his friends) Joe, who works for CWR Construction, a large company in Vanuatu that employs 300 trades people, said that as a result of the competency training delivered by Carpentry Trainer, Mike Adamson, he is learning to be more efficient and more professional.
Kital Nakou, who has a small construction company in Vanuatu, employing seven carpenters, added, “I am planning to send someone to attend the painting course. I am learning a more professional way of doing things.”
Richard George, who previously worked for a Port Vila construction company for twelve months, agrees. “I have started a company in partnership with my uncle, and we employ another twelve carpenters. I will be able to share new skills when I go home.”
