PNG Electrical student restores power in village
Exemplifying the commitment and tenacity of many APTC students is Mr Pii Atbob of Papua New Guinea. Mr Atbob’s project and assignment work throughout the System Electrical course from which he graduated in may 2009, was centred on the repair of the generators at his village, as his vision was to restore power to the school and other government buildings there.
On completion of the majority of his course, Mr Atbob packed some 50 kilograms of tools in his backpack and trekked from Tabubil through difficult terrain for five days, to his village of, Seremty Oksapmin, where he worked for two months, restoring power to the area.
Mr Atbob gave up his leave entitlement so that he could attend the course one day a week, and most weekends.
Mr Atbob, who managed and wired the new Domestic Terminal and the re-fit of the International Terminal at Tabubil, 2007 to 2008, is married with two children, and would like to travel to Australia to further his studies, then return to help the people in his area in PNG.
“Students like Mr Atbob are an inspiration, with their drive and determination. This is why we are here,” said APTC Electrical Trainer, Ian Strachan.
