Unique training partnership acknowledged at graduation
In his address at the recent graduation ceremony in Nadi, Fiji, Mr Anthony Bailey, Head of APTC School of Tourism and Hospitality (STH) made special reference to the unique training partnership between APTC and the Rakiraki Tanoa Hotel.
Mr Bailey said that the partnership was the result of a proposal made by Mr Jim Irwin, Fiji Country Manager “to establish a training facility at the Tanoa Rakiraki Hotel with the Tanoa Hotel Group along the lines of a residential hotel school… and since Jim had secured the commitment and support of the Tanoa Hotel Group CEO, Gordon Wilson, we embarked upon… a very ambitious scheme to develop and operate a training facility in an existing fully commercial hotel.”
Mr Bailey thanked Mr Wilson and the management and staff of the Tanoa Rakiraki Hotel “for their willingness to come on the journey of something completely new for the Pacific”. He concluded by saying that this model “…is a wonderful example of industry and VET institutions working together and maximising training opportunities and employment opportunities.” The first students to complete training at the Tanoa Rakiraki Hotel were amongst the ninety-nine graduates at the Nadi ceremony.
