Patisserie graduate lives his dream at Novotel in Nadi
New APTC Certificate III Patisserie graduate, Ratu Filimoni Dakui has been living his dream for the past two and a half months. Fili (as his workmates at Novotel call him) is putting his newly acquired skills to good use in the kitchen at Novotel Hotel in Nadi, Fiji.
“I answered an advertisement and even though I had not graduated yet, the Novotel hired me. In two more weeks, my probation time will be up,” explained Fili.
“I find the job very challenging because I have to prepare pastries and desserts for conferences and functions. Sometimes there are two or three functions a day, up to six days a week. I really have to rely on the training I had at APTC to meet the challenge,” said Fili.
Fili, who comes from Ba, travelled four hours a day to attend the APTC Patisserie course at the Namaka campus in Nadi “This was the first time that I studied outside school,” continued Fili. “It was very demanding, but very interesting. We learnt so many new things. It made the daily travel all worthwhile.
“I am very grateful to APTC for giving me a scholarship, which made it possible to attend the College. And now, thanks to APTC and my Patisserie Trainer, Mr Udo Eichelmann, I have the job I used to dream about.”
