Tourism Operations students design successful tours
Tourism Operations students at the Vanuatu campus recently made an impact with the quality of their tours, designed as a part of their course work.
“We asked students to undertake a small-scale tourism operation during the months of May and June,” explained Trainer Michael Keating. “This activity was designed to encourage students to be proactive in their tourism operations, including negotiating with custom or business owners for access to sites, and demonstrating their newly learned skills in communication, desktop publishing and project management.”
“We invited several observers from the community to take part in the tours, to provide objective feedback,” said Michael. “It was a glowing testament to the emerging skills of the students when these guests could not differentiate between marketing materials created by the students and those created by professional marketing companies.”
“The standard of the tours was very professional, and the fact that access was gained to what are usually ’off-limits’ areas, including the floor of Vanuatu’s Parliament House, demonstrates the confident, positive negotiating skills of the Operations students,” concluded Michael.
