STH Vanuatu students have a taste of Tanna Coffee.
As a part of their study units, Develop and Update hospitality industry knowledge, Develop and Update food and beverage knowledge, Promote products to customers, and Operate a bar, Hospitality Operations and Supervision students from the Vanuatu campus recently toured the Tanna Coffee facility
“Although not a sprawling complex by any means, this plant roasts, grinds and packages all of the Tanna Coffee product that is supplied throughout the islands, and to Australia, New Zealand and many countries in Europe,” said STH Trainer, Marc Warin.
Nuvi Iata, Tanna Coffee’s Chief Roaster and Production Manager, who met the students at the door, told them everything they wanted to know about coffee; from the number of farmers on Tanna who supply the raw beans, to all the delicate intricacies of the roasting, grinding and packing process.
“We watched the beans tumble in the roaster, smelled the aroma of freshly roasted coffee as it tumbled out of the roaster, and ran our hands through buckets of silky, warm coffee beans,” said Marc. “ The students marvelled at the coffee ‘bits and pieces’ that decorated the factory.”
Nuvi talked to the students about market demands, and how Tanna Coffee promotes its products through advertising and marketing.
The tour ended with a look at the coffee seedling farm, “and of course, a beautiful cup of Tanna Coffee, made by Nuvi and his trained staff,” concluded Marc.
