A milestone in strengthening collaboration for skills development and working closely with key stakeholders in Nauru was celebrated recently with the signing of a hosting agreement between the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC) and the Nauru Government.
The hosting agreement, signed by APTC’s Chief Executive Officer, Ms Soli Middleby, and Chief Secretary of the Government of Nauru, Mr Bernard Grundler, will see the appointment of the first ever country-based Nauru Country Engagement and Liaison Coordinator.
Once appointed, the Coordinator will be the focal point for all APTC activities in Nauru, including student recruitment, coordinating delivery of short courses, skill sets and advancing partner outreach through labour mobility and various other engagements.
While signing the agreement, Mr Grundler said that the Nauru Government is pleased with the opportunity to work closely with APTC to continue supporting the delivery of Australian qualifications for the upskilling of the people of Nauru.
“The growing population of Nauru will no doubt need further training in programs offered by APTC and this signing is a way forward for both parties to continue supporting and addressing the country’s industry needs,” Mr Grundler said.
Echoing similar sentiments, APTC’s Country Director for Vanuatu and Nauru, Ms Anna Naupa, said the agreement would benefit the people of Nauru through increased training opportunities facilitated through the Country Engagement and Liaison Coordinator.
“The Coordinator will work towards fostering APTC’s visibility and achieving desired results relating to improving TVET pathways, employment outcomes and workplace productivity,” Ms Naupa said.
“APTC looks forward to having more on-island presence to better enable us to work closely with the Government and people of Nauru to support lifelong learning,” she added.
Present in Nauru at the signing was APTC Senior Trainer, Mr Kevin Tabi, who was in the country conducting International Skills Training (IST) at the Nauru TVET Centre.
