Wong Kee hopes to be the best chef in town!
Wong Kee Tuipoloa, a former student of APTC’s School of Tourism & Hospitality, Certificate III Commercial Cookery completed his six month course in June 2008 and is now employed as a Chef at the Paddles Restaurant in Apia. “Paddles” is a well known local restaurant situated across from Apia harbour in an ideal location.
Wong Kee says he has always had a passion for cooking and that he comes from a family who shares this interest. His grandfather owned a restaurant in Apia that catered for the town-area work force where Wong Kee worked before joining APTC.
In addition to being employed in other restaurants in Apia, Wong Kee has international cooking experience having worked in the USA at the Sheraton in Colorado Springs and Honolulu. Wong Kee believes that his time with APTC was a great opportunity not only for him but for other students in Samoa.
Studying with students from different cultural backgrounds was not a problem with Wong Kee, he felt honoured and privileged. Although Wong Kee already had experience working with industry, he felt he needed to upgrade his skills and qualifications. When APTC was established, he felt that studying with the College was a good way to achieve his goal.
Wong Kee hopes to be the best Chef in town!. He believes a great chef is someone who is well qualified and experienced and has a high level of food hygiene. But equally important, this person must be reliable, energetic, motivated, have a great attitude and the ability to lead others.
Wong Kee has nothing but positive comments about APTC. He appreciates his trainers and particularly wishes to thank Steve Johnston for his support. At some point, Wong Kee hopes to relocate to New Zealand to set up a restaurant of his own, although he still hopes to return to APTC one day for further studies in Patisserie.
On behalf of APTC Samoa, we wish Wong Kee Tuipoloa the very best in his future endeavours.
