APTC Alumni Celebrate 10-Year Anniversary
APTC has achieved a milestone of reaching 10 years of providing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the Pacific.
APTC alumni came out in large numbers and joined in celebrations held across the Pacific to mark this special occasion. Alumni from 2008 to 2017 held a special procession at graduation ceremonies in Samoa, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and PNG.
The Prime Minister of Samoa, Honourable Afioga Fatialofa Tuilaepa Sailele Lupesoliai Malielegaoi launched the celebrations at APTC’s graduation ceremony in September. Read more

Meet Anna Matane
She is passionate about creating a safe community for all to live in. She is a decorated officer of the Papua New Guinea Royal Constabulary, who recently completed a stint with the RAMSI as Advisor to the Solomon Islands Police. Anna graduated with a Diploma of Community Services and is one of the many outstanding graduates trained by APTC.

Meet Vineta Pisia
Expanding knowledge and being prepared to face the challenges that come with being a youth worker is what led Ms Vineta Pisia to undertake studies at APTC.
Ms Pisia, from Samoa, was unable to finish her university education due to financial constraints. However, that has not stopped her from pursuing her goals and dreams in life.

Workshop on food safety to educate alumni and market vendors
The APTC Alumni Vanuatu Chapter organised a workshop on Food Safety for its members in November. The main purpose of the workshop was to educate the alumni members and equip market mamas (food vendors) with knowledge and awareness on personal hygiene and safe food handling practices.

Career planning, scholarships and mental health awareness
In October, APTC hosted two workshops for alumni in Honiara, Solomon Islands. Over 80 alumni attended a scholarships and career planning information session, where they learned about the various opportunities available for further training and work experience. During the workshop, they received career planning advice from Director Trade from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, George Tuti, Australian Awards Assistant Program Manager, Angellina Fakaia, and New Zealand High Commission representative, Berris Olitisa. Mr Tuti also spoke about what the government is doing through the National Training Unit to facilitate employment through the seasonal worker program.
APTC graduates in Honiara also attended a mental health awareness presentation, during which, Australian Certified Practicing Counsellor, Maree Fish, who has vast counselling experience, talked about how mental health can be influenced by different factors such as marijuana and depression which can lead to other issues. The information session also provided graduates with a wider perspective on how to help and interact with people who are mentally ill within the community.

PNG alumni participate in networking skills workshop
Our graduates in PNG participated in a workshop to develop their networking skills to help them secure employment and training opportunities.
During the workshop, which was held in October, they learned about the different types of networking and why it is needed, as well as some challenges faced by people in finding employment such as confidence, identifying opportunities and having a professional approach to job vacancies.
Hospitality graduate, Ruth Ame, said she really enjoyed the session. “After attending the workshop, I realized how important networking is and how it can be used in different situations by people in diverse professions around the world. I have also learnt a wide range of new ideas and skills including confidence and marketing my skills and knowledge.”

Tonga alumni give back to their community
As part of APTC’s 10-year anniversary celebrations, our Tonga Alumni Chapter has been carrying out community service activities in Tongatapu.
In October, the alumni cleaned up the surroundings of the Alonga Centre for the disabled, which was greatly appreciated by the staff and members. The alumni also did a general clean-up of the Tonga Red Cross Society compound in November.

PNG and Tonga alumni benefit from time management workshop
One of the ways we support our alumni is through running regular workshops that will help them be more efficient in the workplace.
In November, we hosted a Time Management workshop for our graduates in PNG and Tonga. It was an opportunity for the graduates to not only learn how to prioritise work, and organise their workloads but also discuss the challenges of meeting deadlines and how to counter these.
