Vanuatu students support World AIDS Day Awareness

Oct 01, 2010

"We had a very busy world AIDS Day that involved placing information for students to access in front of our office, providing staff, trainers and students with red ribbons, and participating in the national World AIDS Day activities at Melemat Village," said APTC Vanuatu Country Program Coordinator, Berlinrose Dick.

"Gibson Ala, the national World AIDS Day Chairperson, acknowledged the APTC support for participation in the 2010 national World Aids Day."

Berlinrose said that APTC student Erin Gilbert from the Solomon Islands composed a song especially for the occasion, and that Erin would like to acknowledge the assistance that APTC gave her with arranging a sound track for the song.

"Part of the song goes like this, 'Hand in hand we stand far across the land, we can make this world a better place for our brothers and sisters'.

"The song was such a big hit that the students had to sing it several times before they got on the bus to go back to campus for afternoon classes," said Berlinrose.

Berlinrose thanked the PNG and Solomon Island students for their active participation in the day, and the support of APTC Country Manager Jan Matheson and the trainers. She said that she also took the opportunity to distribute APTC pamphlets to members of the community.

APTC is an Australian Government initiative in partnership with the Pacific and Timor-Leste.

APTC is implemented by TAFE Queensland (RTO 0275)
