APTC supports Lifeline Samoa

May 02, 2013

The Australian High Commission in Samoa organises a monthly Fun Run/Walk and Breakfast to encourage healthy exercise and living. The April Fun/Run was in support of the newly formed Lifeline Samoa (Faataua Le Ola) which is specifically targeting suicide awareness and prevention.

APTC students (both Samoan and international) supported this Fun Run/Walk as participants. The Australian High Commissioner Dr Stephen Henningham said he was thrilled to see such a great support by all APTC students and staff.

After the Fun Run an Australian Federal Police (AFP) officer Andy Warton set off on a KAYAK to raise suicide awareness in both Samoa and Australia. You can read more about him  at www.kayak4youth.com

APTC Students sang a beautiful farewell song to Andy as he was accompanied out of Apia harbour by lots of other paddlers including two APTC Samoa Staff.

The APTC students have now suggested that we organise an APTC  running team for the next Fun Run in May. Training has started with runners circling the oval at National University of Samoa (NUS) every evening in preparation.

APTC is an Australian Government initiative in partnership with the Pacific and Timor-Leste.

APTC is implemented by TAFE Queensland (RTO 0275)
