Rural educators in Vanuatu receive leadership and management training

Sep 02, 2021

Twenty education sector teachers, principals and provincial education officials from the Malampa Province completed their leadership and management training to develop their skills in the effective management of schools.

Australia’s technical and vocational education and training program in the Pacific, the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC), provided the training through a collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET), Vanuatu Education Support Program (VESP), and the Malampa Provincial Education Office through the Department of Education Services.

The participants, who are senior educators and managers from remote and rural schools on Malekula, Ambrym and Paama, received their Certificate IV in Leadership and Management at a graduation ceremony on 17 August 2021.

Speaking at the ceremony, Principal Education Officer, Renjo Samuel said the delivery of the Certificate IV in Leadership and Management program in Malampa was a milestone and will benefit the education sector and human resource development as a whole.

“The training supports the development of a sustainable workforce to lead and manage schools and educational projects to achieve successful outcomes and ensuring more efficiency for Vanuatu’s education sector,” he added.

Mr Samuel also thanked the Australian Government for providing training to rural areas through its programs, such as the Vanuatu Skills Partnership, APTC and VESP, to enable people to gain necessary skills.

The Vanuatu Education Support Program team leader, David Letichevsky, congratulated the graduating cohort on their achievements saying the skills are important and will be useful for both their work career and personal lives.

“You were selected for this course because the Ministry of Education and Training believes that you are leaders capable of transforming the lives of your colleagues in your schools and the families you serve.”

The graduates join more than 2000 ni-Vanuatu who have gained Australian qualifications through the APTC.

A similar training is also being delivered by APTC for educators on Santo.

APTC is an Australian Government initiative in partnership with the Pacific and Timor-Leste.

APTC is implemented by TAFE Queensland (RTO 0275)
