Sports social for APTC students and staff in Nadi

May 20, 2011

More than 60 APTC students and staff took part in a social event held in the grounds of the Tanoa Apartments Nadi, Fiji.

Organiser Liz Algar, Student Administration, Welfare, and Scholarship Coordinator explained that this was the first-ever social event organised for all international and local students studying at the Namaka Campus, and was also attended by the General Manager APTC, Mr Antoine Barnaart and Ms Amelia Kanalagi, Scholarship and Alumni Officer.

"The heavy afternoon downpour did not in any way dampen the spirits of the students and staff who turned up," said Ms Algar.

"Unfortunately the supermarkets had run out of sacks, so there was no sack race, but we played games of volleyball, tug-of war and coconut tunnel, and swimming was available for those who wanted a bit of afternoon sunset relaxation."

It was also a great opportunity to introduce the six Students Representatives, comprising David Reddy and Tauraoi Kirite (Tourism Operations), Atish Chand and Carolyn Papaso (Patisserie) and Rex Faiga and Shofya Mahmud (Children's Services).

Ms Algar said it was an evening of fun, socialising and bonding, which will hopefully become a monthly ritual in the Namaka Campus calendar of events. She thanked Chef Trainer Douglas Battison and his student chefs for preparing the BBQ dinner, and said everyone was looking forward to the Children's Services Group cooking dinner next month.

"The challenge now is for all staff to join the afternoon one hour exercise session on Wednesday or Thursday afternoons in the build up to the APTC Sports day, to be held at Rakiraki Campus in May," concluded Ms Algar.

APTC is an Australian Government initiative in partnership with the Pacific and Timor-Leste.

APTC is implemented by TAFE Queensland (RTO 0275)
